Square Wallet Now Accepted at Starbucks

After the partnership between Square and Starbucks last summer, Starbucks customers can now pay for their coffee in-store with the Square Wallet.

Starbucks has begun offering Square's digital wallet in nearly 7,000 of it's North American locations following a major partnership between the coffee chain and payments start-up announced last summer, Square said in a statement today.

The Square Wallet will allow customers to pay at Starbucks with one click and the scan of QR code, much like the way that Starbucks' own mobile payment application works. Starbucks will continue to offer its own payments app as well, which is used by Starbucks customers more than 2 million times per week, according to Square's statement.

The Square Wallet will include many of the features and information that Starbucks' mobile app offers: Starbucks customers will be able to view store hours and transaction history, as well as browse the menu at Starbucks on their phone.

The Starbucks Digital Network in Starbucks stores is also going to start featuring the Square directory, alerting customers to other businesses in their neighborhood that accept the Square Wallet. This means that customers still using the Starbucks mobile payments app will be able to view those businesses in the directory, which should help spark greater awareness of Square's wallet and brand. As Bank Systems & Technology previously wrote, that will give an incentive for businesses to sig up with Square and join that directory.

The Square Wallet is available on both iOS and Android, and links to the customer's credit or debit cards.
