New Law Halts PayPal Personal Payments in Japan
Compliance requirements have forced PayPal to temporarily shut down its personal payment service in Japan for a few days. As of today, customers in Japan will be unable to send personal payments to individuals. The company needs to make changes to its personal payments service in order to comply with new Japanese regulations that go into effect April 1.
PayPal members outside of Japan can continue to send money to Japanese residents and Japanese customers can use PayPal to shop online and pay for goods and services for commercial transactions.
In a blog, Kosuke Seto, head of marketing for PayPal Japan, apologized for the suspension of service but said the company doesn't know yet when its personal payments system will be back up and running.
