Mobile Payment Solution for Google Nexus S Debuts

Charge Anywhere's software turns the NFC-enabled Google Nexus S into a merchant terminal for contactless payments, presenting a competitive challenge to Verifone and Square.

For all the acrimony among vendors, such as VeriFone and Square, that are attempting to provide the payment mechanism merchants will use to allow consumers to make mobile payments, and bashing each other's technology along the way, a quiet competitor such as Charge Anywhere could sweep off with the emerging merchant market for mobile payments.

Charge Anywhere says its Android payment software and gateway can now accept near-field communication-based mobile payments through NFC-enabled Google Nexus S phones. So instead of having to buy and maintain a Verifone-style merchant terminal or Square's card reader device, a merchant could use a simple Nexus S phone to accept credit card and ACH payments in the field.

Charge Anywhere also works with iPhones, but requires an accompanying card reader to collect card credentials, since iPhones are not yet NFC enabled (except in Visa/MasterCard/bank pilots, in which the phone is encased in an NFC radio-embedded sleeve made by DeviceFidelity).

Charge Anywhere says its mobile payment POS software is Payment Card Industry PA-DSS validated and that its ComsGate Payment Gateway is PCI DSS Level 1 compliant.
