RIM Device To Allow Users to Display PowerPoints from Their BlackBerrys

BlackBerry Presenter, a small USB device, will retail for $199.

Research In Motion today introduced BlackBerry Presenter, a small device that plugs into a projector or monitor and lets a user display a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation wirelessly from his or her BlackBerry. This could be useful to bank executives who travel and give talks; theoretically, if PowerPoint is the only application for which an executive is carrying his laptop, he could forego the PC for this three-and-a-half inch long, five ounce unit.

"Mobile professionals are always looking to carry less when travelling," said Glenn Laxdal, vice president, product management, Research In Motion, in a statement.

RIM says its device lets users loop presentation slides and reference information on one slide while displaying another. A wireless Bluetooth connection between the BlackBerry smartphone and BlackBerry Presenter allows users to walk around freely while presenting (it supports roaming up to 30 feet between the devices).

The BlackBerry Presenter is being demonstrated by RIM at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week and will be available at an unspecified later date for $199.
