Obama Nominates Dartmouth President to Lead World Bank

Jim Yong Kim may be the next to head the World Bank after its current president steps down in June.

This morning, President Barack Obama nominated Dartmouth College president and global health expert Jim Yong Kim to lead the World Bank after the institution's current President, Robert Zoellick, steps down from his five-year term in June.

Kim has been president of Dartmouth since July 2009 and is the co-founder of Partners in Health, a nonprofit that provides health care to people in developing countries. He previously served as chair of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School and as chief of the Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Kim also headed the HIV/AIDS department at the World Health Organization from 2004-2006.

"It's time for a development professional to lead the world's largest development agency," Obama said during the announcement at the White House.
