ING to Use Virtual Desktops for Disaster Recovery

Using RingCube's virtual desktop, which copies apps, data and permissions to a USB drive.

Dutch bank ING Group plans to deploy virtual desktops from RingCube (vDesk) to help with mobility and disaster recovery. In the event of a disaster, ING employees that use a corporate PC in the office will access their desktop computing environment within a vDesk virtual workspace running on a portable USB drive.

RingCube vDesk downloads the user's desktop environment, including applications, data and settings, from the operating system onto to a USB device while automatically backing up every virtual desktop to a centralized server. Users can run their vDesk workspace at the office or on unmanaged PCs — at home, or at a disaster recovery site. When users start their vDesk workspace, it looks like their corporate workspace and they can access files, applications, settings and entire desktop.

Pricing for vDesk starts at $200 per user.
