India Bank to Deploy IBM's Data Center Pods
Karad Urban Co-operative Bank in Maharashtra, the wealthiest state in India, plans to deploy Scalable Modular Server Rooms, IBM's version of a data center in a box, with servers, storage, electrical equipment and other components all built in. According to the bank and IBM, the deal will enable KUCB to save nearly 75% on resource allocation costs and allow staff to focus on core business activities. IBM will also provide maintenance and technical services for the data center and disaster recovery sites of KUCB.
The bank says it selected IBM's prefab data center after evaluating nine vendors that would build its data center in the traditional model.
KUCB, established over 90 years ago, has been growing rapidly in Maharashtra and plans to establish branches in Gujarat and Karnataka. The bank's chairman, Dr. Subhash S. Erram, indicated in a statement that the modular, prefab approach to its data centers would help facilitate this growth. Karad Urban Co-operative Bank has a network of 48 branches in various districts of Western Maharashtra.
