SAP Integrates Geo-Spatial Data Into Analytics Platforms
SAP has partnered with Esri to integrate its geographic information system (GIS) in SAP solutions, specifically SAP HANA, SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform, and SAP Mobile Platform, to improve support in geo-spatial data for financial institutions and insurance companies.
“SAP plans to provide real-time high-performance processing of spatial data with SAP HANA, a single platform for transactions, analytics and big data,” says Steve Lucas, EVP and general manager for analytics, database and platform for SAP.
GSI captures and analyzes geo-spatial data visually to spot geographical trends on maps, globes, reports and charts. SAP offers users applications with visual geographic content, processes spatial data on SAP HANA in real-time, and supports the same support for mobile platforms.

According to Marie Goodell, senior director of product marketing for big data at SAP, the integration would benefit financial institutions and insurance companies by allowing them to see geographical trends in branches, products, transactions, and claims.
“SAP HANA is actually processing that data underneath and then sending the information out to various applications for BI tools,” comments Goodell. The combination can be integrated in through an application development programming layer that can be developed into and delivered through applications.”
