The Daily Show's Take on the Dodd-Frank Act

John Stewart and John Oliver present a comically grim view of what has happened with the legislation so far.

Last night, a week after the one-year anniversary of the Dodd-Frank Act being passed into law, the The Daily Show With John Stewart ran an update on what has happened with the legislation so far. The update featured an interview with the Dodd-Frank legislation itself, personified by correspondent John Oliver in a costume meant to look like a beat-up version of a School House Rock cartoon character.

Although the update doesn't have anything good to say about the progress of Dodd-Frank so far, it does what The Daily Show does best -- comically summarizes the pain points of a complicated government situation. The bit pokes fun at the lack of a director for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the fact that only 38 out of 400 new rules have been written.

"I'm no law," laments Oliver as Dodd-Frank. "I'm just an undefined, impotent, 2,300-page piece of legislative…." Well, I'll just let you watch the video:
