FirstCaribbean, Sybase Roll Out Mobile Banking
DUBLIN, Calif., April 27, 2010 — FirstCaribbean International Bank and Sybase, Inc. subsidiary Sybase 365 on Monday announced a partnership to provide customers with mobile banking services.
The largest regionally-listed bank in the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean, FirstCaribbean International Bank ($10.9 billion in assets) has 66 branches, 22 banking centers and seven offices across 17 regional markets. The new mobile service allows its 550,000 customers to access accounts via mobile phone, something the bank noted as being of significant importance for those without home Internet access. The offering is based on the Sybase mBanking 365 platform, which gives customers multiple banking functions via SMS.
"Our partnership with Sybase 365 allows us to deliver the best possible mobile banking products to our customers throughout the region," said Mahes Wickramasinghe, chief administrative office, FirstCaribbean International Bank.
The platform allows customers to check account balances, get balance alerts, transfer money and monitor recent transactions, with additional features possible later.
