EUFISERV and First Data Finalize European Processing Expansion Agreement

First Data Corp. (Greenwood Village, Colo.) and EUFISERV (Brussels), along with its 15 shareholders, have finalized an agreement to expand and develop the European interbank processing network managed by EUFISERV.

EUFISERV provides interbank switching of point-of-sale and ATM transactions. Its shareholders include 12 European banks and banking organizations. First data processes transaction data of all kinds and has operations in 37 countries.

The two companies will connect the existing networks of both companies, and to reflect the new joint ownership structure, the EUFISERV interbank processing business will be renamed Trionis and will be based in Brussels, operating out of the former EUFISERV premises. Trionis' products and services will be promoted through the First Data sales force across Europe as well as offered through a dedicated sales team within the Trionis organization.

The Trionis Network plans to link the former EUFISERV network to First Data's network, which could enable access to up to 74,000 ATMs, 1.5 million point-of-sale terminals and 165 million card accounts across Europe.
