BBVA Compass Adds Mobile Photo Bill Pay to iPhone App
BBVA Compass has added mobile photo bill pay technology to its iPhone app with a new feature, called Picture Bill pay, that will allow users to pay bills with their smartphone camera, according to a statement released yesterday by the bank. The new feature will make BBVA Compass the second major bank to launch the mobile photo bill pay solution developed by Mitek after U.S. Bank rolled out the solution in March.

The solution will help make the bill pay process easier for customers, Alejandro Carriles, BBVA Compass’s director of self-service channels, said in the statement. The Picture Bill Pay feature will capture and save payee and payments details once a picture of a paper bill is taken so that information doesn’t have to be re-entered the next time the feature is used. This will result in fewer human errors from manually entering information, the statement said.
BBVA Compass hopes that the new feature will help attract new customers who might be hesitant to switch banks because don’t want to have to re-enter their payment information when they first have to pay bills with their new bank, BBVA’s Carriles said in the statement. “This new feature takes the hassle out of switching,” he explained.
