Wells Fargo Picks Voltage to Secure E-mail

Wells Fargo (San Francisco) has deployed the SecureMail solution from information encryptions company Voltage to secure the bank's e-mail communications between employees, customers, vendors and business partners.

According to Voltage, the bank selected SecureMail due to its easy-to-use interface, ease of integration with pre-existing message environment and a lower cost of ownership as there are no directories, certificates or duplicate systems to manage.

"We see secure communications as a mission critical part of our overall business strategy and a valued service to enable our customers to interact with the bank," said Steve Ellis, executive vice president of Wells Fargo's Wholesale Services Group, in a statement. "With Voltage, our team members, customers, and business partners can interact online in a secure, simple manner," said Ellis.

Voltage SecureMail uses identity-based encryption (IBE). IBE is a type of public-key cryptography in which the public key of a user is some unique information about the identity of the user.
