ViVOtech Enables First Latin American NFC Mobile Phone Payment Pilot in Guatemala
Provisioning software for near field communications (NFC) mobile payments from ViVOtech (Santa Clara, Calif.), a provider of NFC mobile payments, promotions and Over-the-Air (OTA) provisioning infrastructure software, is being used in the first NFC mobile payment trial in Latin America. The trial is being led by Visa (San Francisco).
This deployment marks Latin America's first NFC-based mobile payment pilot and use of Visa payWave-enabled mobile handsets at hundreds of merchants that have installed the ViVOpay 5000 contactless payment readers in Guatemala.
ViVOtech's readers and NFC provisioning software were deployed in the mobile Visa payWave pilot launched by the card company, in partnership with Compaa de Procesamiento de Medios de Pago de Guatemala (known as Visanet Guatemala), Banco Industrial and Banco Uno, and is expected to last six months. Mobile payments will be available to more than 200 Visa cardholders whose credit card data will be migrated onto the cell phone, allowing them to use the Visa payWave feature.
