PayPal’s New App Adds New Payment Options and Shopping Features

PayPal aims to offer more flexible payments options for customers to use their mobile device for in-store purchases, and made improvements to the customer shopping experience.

PayPal launched it’s new mobile pap for iPhone and Android that will allow customers to pay in-store with any of their credit cards, bank accounts or with their PayPal account, Hill Ferguson, the company’s vice president of global product, wrote yesterday on PayPal’s blog.

The app packs a number of new shopping features, which Ferguson said will make it easier to pay with mobile devices in-store. When app users click on the “shop” tab they will be able to locate stores and restaurants nearby that accept PayPal payments, Ferguson wrote. When customers go to one of these locations they can check in and open a tab with a swipe, Ferguson noted, and can choose from any of their payment options. Purchase receipts will be sent to the customer’s email.

Additionally customers will be able to bypass the line at a cafe or restaurant by ordering as soon as they check in with the app. PayPal has already partnered with the Eat24 online delivery restaurant delivery service to enable customers to purchase their order ahead of time this way, Ferguson said.

The app also includes merchant offers; each new customer will receive $100 in offers in the app from local businesses, Ferguson wrote. Customers will also be able to open a line of credit with the Bill Me Later option in the app when purchasing, and participating retailers will offer flexible financing options on larger purchases, he added.
