PayPal, Home Depot to Partner on POS Program

The technology is thusfar available in five stores and only for a trial group of PayPal employees.

PayPal announced it is rolling out a small-scale pilot of its new point-of-sale technology with retailer Home Depot.

The Home Depot pilot is currently being run in five stores and involves only a small number of PayPal employees, according to a blog on the company's website. The blog post, written by PayPal director of communications, Anuj Nayar, said that the announcement is part of the company's initiative of "connecting retailers with their customers by helping them integrate a faster, more targeted and more flexible shopping experience across channels."

Home Depot is the first retailer to implement PayPal's POS technology, but Nayar hinted in the blog that more announcements may be coming.

"Stay tuned throughout the year as we continue to re-imagine money and make it work better for merchants and consumers," he wrote.

This announcement comes on the heels of last week's news that former PayPal head Scott Thompson was leaving the payments firm to become the new CEO of Yahoo.
