New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority Seeks Proposals for New Contactless Fare Payment System

New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority seeks proposals for new contactless fare payment system; will hold presentation and invitation to comment on its Concept of Operations for vendor community on May 10, 2011.

New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has developed a Concept of Operations (ConOps) for a contactless fare payment system based on open standards for the MTA's subway and bus systems. According to the MTA, the ConOps "will directly lead to the design, procurement and implementation of a new fare payment system." The MTA is making this ConOps available to the fare collection, technology, telecommunications, system integration and payments industries in order to "stimulate discussion and obtain input to finalize a ConOps that describes a system that is state-of-the-art, cost-effective and technically and commercially feasible."

The MTA will hold an industry-outreach presentation to the vendor community on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, 10am - 12pm ET. Attendance is limited to persons employed by and/or representing firms that participate in the fare collection, technology, telecommunications, system integration or payments industries. Seating will be limited and no more than two persons per firm will be permitted to attend. Advance reservations are required.

To obtain a download of the ConOps or request a reservation for the May 10 presentation, visit the MTA's "Notice of Availability" page at www.nfpsindustryoutreach.com.
