NACHA NEWS: Panini Re-introduces Scanner for Small Businesses

At this week's NACHA 2009 conference, check imaging solutions company Panini featured its new scanner that is targeted at small businesses. Dubbed the IDeal, this scanner is designed to optimally process up to 10 checks per day and offers a smaller, more streamlined footprint when compared to standard check scanners.

According to marketing communications manager Jessica Back, Panini initially launched IDeal at BAI's Transpay conference in March. The response was so great that the company decided to re-introduce it to the NACHA audience. "Three and a half months of production has already sold out and Edward Jones purchased 10,000 units," Back told BS&T.

Part of IDeal's designs that allowed Panini to scale down the size of the unit is that it is built with consolidated technology. Panini patented a technology that allows the product to operate with one camera that rotates to capture the images on the front and back of a check. Standard sized scanner employ two cameras to snap images of each side of the check. The unit is also designed with self-correcting technology so that users don't have to concern themselves with precisely placing the check into the feeder.

Back says one of the most compelling aspects of IDeal is its price—one of the few scanners to sell for under $300. "It has a $299 per unit ceiling," she says.
