USAA, Mitek Legal Battle Rolls On
The legal imbroglio between USAA and mobile imaging software solutions provider Mitek Systems continued today, with Mitek suing the financial services company for defamation and unfair business practices.
Mitek amended a prior lawsuit against USAA to include claims of of defamation and violation of the Lanham Act for unfair business practices. Mitek's initial lawsuit came after a USAA suit against the company alleging patent infringmemt.
The legal battle centers on mobile remote deposit capture technology. San Antonio-based USAA Bank filed its lawsuit in April, claiming that Mitek appropriated its trade secrets and technology when developing its mobile RDC system. Later in the month, Mitek filed a countersuit claiming that USAA infringed upon five Mitek patents relating to image capture on mobile devices, and that USAA breached the parties' license agreement by using Mitek products beyond the scope of the agreed-upon license terms.
