Barclays Appoints Harte CTO
Commonwealth Bank of Australia CIO Michael Harte has resigned his post to assume the role of Chief Operations and Technology Officer for London-based Barclays Bank.
Harte, a 2011 Bank Systems & Technology Elite 8 honoree, is expected to take up his new role by the middle of 2014. He will replace former CTO Shaygan Kheradpir.
He joined Commonwealth Bank as a group executive of enterprise IT in 2006, and for the past eight years has led the group's technology teams. In October 2008, Harte was named group executive of Enterprise Services, with responsibility for both technology and banking operations under a single banner.
Harte also led Commonwealth through a large-scale core banking transformation using SAP for Banking, which replaced a wide range of legacy systems -- some dating from the 1960s. More than 1,500 people worked for neural six years on the project, which gave Commonwealth a real-time and customer-centric banking platform.
"We greatly appreciate Michael's contribution to our IT strategy which has built a strong team and a pipeline of value-creating technology solutions which will benefit our customers and businesses for years to come," said Commonwealth Bank CEO Ian Narev in a prepared statement.
