BIAN Announces Four New Members

The not-for-profit association is dedicated to creating a service-oriented architecture standard in the financial industry.

The Banking Industry Architecture Network (BIAN) today announced four new members are joining the not-for-profit association.

The BIAN is a technology association dedicated to creating a service-oriented architecture standard in the financial industry. Since its inception in 2008, BIAN's mission has been to establish a service-oriented architecture standard in the banking industry, the group said.

The group said Buffalo, N.Y.-based First Niagara, and IT services provider CSC are joining the initiative. Additionally, Asian global investment bank, Nomura and Carnegie Mellon University -- joining as an academic partner -- will become BIAN members.

In working with BIAN, the group said, financial institutions and service providers will have a safe place to exchange information and knowledge, supporting the sector’s transition to newer, non-proprietary technologies.

"Our BIAN membership provides us access to an additional set of industry standards and resources that reflect best practices from member banks," said Inder Koul, CIO of First Niagara in a statement. "We believe this helps to accelerate our development cycle and prevents any over-reliance on one solution. We look forward to the value this partnership will bring us."
