FIS Hires Homeland Security Exec as New CISO

Jacksonville, Fla.-based banking and payments technology vendor FIS has named Greg Schaffer as its new Chief Information Security Officer. Schaffer, who starts the new post on April 2, will have enterprise-wide oversight of FIS' information security program, functions and initiatives.

Prior to joining FIS, Schaffer served as acting deputy under secretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate and assistant secretary for cybersecurity and communications at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Prior to that, Schaffer developed and implemented an enterprise security and compliance operation for Alltel Communications, serving as its CISO, chief security officer and ultimately chief risk officer, as well as establishing its office of privacy.

According to FIS, the hiring of Schaffer is part of an overall plan to advance the company's information security initiatives.
