Bank Puts Trust in PlanView to Manage IT Resources
A central repository for managing workforce schedules and IT budgets was just what the doctor ordered for Wilmington Trust. Using the PlanView ITmanagement system, the bank has gotten a handle on current and past systems projects, helping it to better plan and allocate resources.
With Y2K looming around the corner, $26.8 billion Wilmington Trust needed a reporting system for its IT team, which resides in two locations. The PlanView framework, including Planning Engine and Time Reporter modules, was installed in October 1999, getting the bank in under the Y2K wire.
"We needed a system that could control our resources and planned work," said Linda O'Neal, vice president at Wilmington, Del.-based Wilmington Trust. "The suite automates a workflow plan based on our available resources and allows us to capture all work efforts for both projects and upcoming initiatives."
The core of the PlanView system is an SQL database that stores all resource and work information. The database, which can reside on an Oracle or Sybase server, is compatible with Internet Explorer and Netscape.
The Planning Engine facilitates planning, collaboration and scheduling through a server that mines organization-wide information to find available personnel and their schedules. Using specific skill sets for each job, the engine selects the best members of the IT team based on their expertise and availability based on current and pending IT commitments.
