U.S. Bank Deploys New ATMs
Machines part of effort to modernize ATM network.

U.S. Bank (Minneapolis; $204 billion in assets) successfully deployed its new Prodigy ATMs -- which are powered by Ontario-based Phoenix Interactive Design's VISTAatm software -- as part of the bank's effort to modernize its ATM fleet. U.S. Bank began rolling out the machines late last year in Portland (Ore.), Cincinnati, Phoenix and Minneapolis-St.Paul. After receiving favorable customer and employee feedback, the bank is preparing for additional deployments of the new machines.

New Mortgage System for SWB
Scottish Widows Bank (Edinburgh) deployed the Profile core processing solution from Jacksonville, Fla.-based Fidelity Information Services to administer the bank's previously outsourced mortgage business. SWB now will directly manage the systems and processes for servicing customers, including end-to-end oversight of all mortgage loans, mortgage deposit accounts and mortgage reserve accounts on one system. All new mortgage business at SWB will be processed on Profile; accounts established prior to June will be migrated onto the new system this fall.

UMB Safeguards VoIP Implementation
Kansas City, Mo.-based UMB Bank ($7.2 billion in assets) is rolling out the nGenius Performance Management System from Westford, Mass.-based NetScout Systems to manage application and network performance throughout the bank's network upgrade for a VoIP implementation. NGenius provides the bank with application visibility and historical trending analysis for more-accurate planning of network and application rollouts, such as network audits to determine bandwidth utilization and the establishment of quality of service classes. The solution also features troubleshooting capabilities designed to reduce or eliminate the risk of network and application degradations.

Pelican National Flies With Imaging
In July, Pelican National Bank (Naples, Fla.) completed its first image exchange using the Intrieve solution suite from Harland Financial Solutions (Atlanta). Pelican utilizes the Intrieve core thrift system, e-banking solution, check and MICR printing solution, and Laser Pro lending software. With Intrieve, checks are scanned with remote devices and electronic images are sent to Harland's Enterprise Service Center in Orlando, where they are routed electronically through the Zions Bank Net Deposit System for truncation. By adding image exchange, the bank can optimize its float and is less vulnerable to fraud, according to Harland.

Vasco's Digipass Goes Mobile
Vasco Data Security (Brussels) introduced Digipass for Java Phone, authentication software that generates one-time passwords and can be downloaded to any Java-supporting mobile phone, according to the vendor. The solution comes in either an out-of-the-box version for small and midsize deployments for corporate network access (CNA) or a customized version for medium to large deployments for CNA, e-commerce or e-banking.

BEA Dresses Tuxedo For SOA Success
BEA Systems (San Jose, Calif.) released version 9.0 of Tuxedo, its high-volume transaction processing solution that helps build new applications and repurpose legacy applications to extend them to a service-oriented architecture, the vendor says. New features include integration with BEA AquaLogic Service Bus, security plug-ins supporting Kerberos for single sign-on, and CERT-C public key infrastructure with digital signature support.

Upgrade to AXS-One Compliance
AXS-One (Rutherford, N.J.) introduced version 3.5 of its Compliance Platform, designed to archive and manage electronic records such as e-mails and instant messages, regardless of originating platform, according to the vendor. New features include quick-search capabilities, enhanced single-instance storage and expanded platform support for Windows and Sun Microsystems' Solaris.

In addition to leveraging the Microsoft (Redmond, Wash.) Windows operating system, VISTAatm enables the new ATMs with text-to-speech technology and allows customers to customize personal "fast cash" preferences. Additionally, the machines feature one-to-one messaging and marketing capabilities. "Customers will have access to targeted offers, customized personal fast cash preferences and more," said Patty Henneke, VP of ATM banking at U.S. Bank, in a statement. "These ATMs provide a faster, easier-to-use and more personal experience."
