Amegy Bank (Houston), a division of Southwest Bancorporation ($7.5 billion in assets), is upgrading its Avaya (Basking Ridge, N.J.) Branch Connect Voice over IP network solution to the Avaya G250 and 150 Media Gateways. "When we began evaluating implementing VoIP, the ability for us to seamlessly integrate VoIP technology with our traditional voice network was a major requirement," explains Jeremy Manning, a vice president at Amegy and its technology infrastructure manager. "Instead of doing a total replace of our voice network, [Avaya] has allowed us to upgrade existing systems at our own pace while we simultaneously implemented new systems with VoIP technology as the bank has expanded."
The G250 features Power over Ethernet (PoE) to enable phones with plug-and-play capabilities, dual WAN connections and dial-up backup, as well as a survivability mode to provide basic communication in case connection to a centralized server is lost. The G150 is scaled down slightly to support standard IP telephony capabilities and survivability. The new survivable server feature, Manning says, will "enhance the operational resiliency of enterprise telephony services which we deem business critical for daily operations." Amegy will upgrade to the new system over the next three to six months.
