NYCE Adds More FIs to its SUM ATM Program

The SUM ATM surcharge-free network offered by NYCE Payments Network, a division of Metavante, has added 16 Illinois-based financial institutions to the program. These include 15 subsidiary community banks of Wintrust Financial (Lake Forest, Ill.) and AMCORE Bank (Rockford, Ill.). With the new additions, the total number of participants in the SUM Program is 200 in the northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin region.

SUM, which stands for "Save U Money," allows cardholders of participating financial institutions to make surcharge-free withdrawals at nearly 2,900 designated ATMs of other SUM Program members. There are more than 500 financial institutions in 27 states, including Puerto Rico, in the program. According to NYCE, one of the elements that makes the SUM Program different from other surcharge-free programs is that the SUM fee structure is primarily based on usage. Similar programs require institutions to pay card royalty fees on their entire card base.
