Provident Bank selects Aurum Technology to provide image-based item processing and back-office support services.

- Provident Bank, Baltimore, has selected Aurum Technology, Plano, Texas, to provide image-based item processing and related back-office support services. Separately, Provident has launched Commercial eWorkplace, an online portal for business services.

- Providian Financial, San Francisco, has enhanced its Smart Visa chip card to make secure online purchases using GemUtilities payment software from Gemplus, Redwood City, Calif. Separately, Providian has selected WorldCom, Clinton, Miss., to provide Web hosting services.

- Royal Bank of Canada, Toronto, is offering Freedom, an online privacy and security software tool from Zero-Knowledge Systems, Montreal, to online banking customers.

- Nodaway Valley Bank, Maryville, Mo., has installed Teller Suite, a Windows-based teller automation solution from National Source One, Lenexa, Kan.

- Bank of South Carolina, Charleston, S.C., has launched ESafe, a real-time Internet banking service.

- First Bank & Trust, Duncan, Okla., has completed a privacy disclosure mailing to customers using the Intarsia customer relationship management system from Sedona, King of Prussia, Pa.

- Bank of Hawaii, Honolulu, has installed ChangeMan, an automated, process-oriented system for managing changes to distributed systems, from Serena Software, Burlingame, Calif.

- ABN AMRO, Chicago, has installed security software from ValiCert, Mountain View, Calif., as a component of AllTrade, the bank's cross-border trade management solution.

- National City, Cleveland, has launched My Sites, an account aggregation service offering single sign-on access to online account balances.

- Bank of Asheville, Asheville, N.C., has added an online banking service, including balances, account transfer, statements and bill payment.

- United California Bank, Los Angeles, has used Logic Server, a business logic automation tool from Versata, Oakland, Calif., to build a new customer relationship management system.

- BankAtlantic, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has enhanced its online banking service with PowerView, an aggregation service that allows customers to access and consolidate accounts from multiple financial institutions into one online location.

- First Union, Charlotte, N.C., enrolled its three-millionth online customer, more than tripling its online customer base since 1999 with an average of 3,000 to 4,000 customers enrolled daily.

- Northern Trust, Chicago, has added an event reporting feature to its online treasury management service, allowing clients to be alerted electronically to positive pay exception activity.
