Windows Security Challenge, a contest aimed at honing the skills needed to secure Microsoft Windows 2000 networks, to be held this July in Seattle; S1 hosts Webinar for senior bank executives looking to grow small business services.

Windows Security Challenge, a contest aimed honing the skills needed to secure Microsoft Windows 2000 networks, will be held at MCP TechMentor Summit on Security, July 10-12, 2002, at the Elliott Grand Hyatt in Seattle, Wash.

The Windows Security Challenge is unique to the MCP TechMentor Summit on Security and promises to be the highlight of this three-day event. The premise is simple. After registering, all attendees will choose whether to be a black hat (attacker/hacker) or a white hat (defender). This defines their role once the Challenge gets kicked off at the Summit. Onsite, the Windows Challenge Task Force, featuring experts from various security arenas, will spend Day 1 building and securing a Microsoft Windows 2000 network during a daylong workshop.

Then the Challenge is on for the next 32 hours, as the black hats and white hats try to infiltrate or stop attackers. The Challenge network will also be accessible from the Internet, so anyone with access from anywhere is welcome to attack.

"The Windows Challenge will add an element of excitement not normally found at conferences. How often are you encouraged to attack a Windows network?" said Keith Ward, program director and senior editor of Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine. "Program Chair Roberta Bragg is one of the best-known Windows security experts in the industry, and her participation, combined with other security gurus from inside and outside Microsoft, promises to help make this a security learning experience like no other."

S1 Corporation, a global provider of enterprise e-finance solutions, will host a Webcast series targeted to senior bank executives who want to expand the marketing and profitability of their small business services.

The two-part educational series, led by Financial Institutions Consulting president Charles Wendel, will empower executives with the latest tips and trends that help drive successful small business banking initiatives.

In the first session on May 9, Wendel will provide an overview on developing a successful approach to the small business banking market. He will outline the services a small business typically expects from a bank, the criteria that businesses use to select a bank and the critical components of customer retention and profitability.

During the second session on May 23, Wendel will drill down on the most critical component of small business profitability, namely deposits. He will provide an assessment of the importance of deposits and outline tactics that generate additional deposits from small business customers through marketing, internal incentives, outreach and service excellence. Wendel will also overview common pitfalls that impede profitability in the small business space.

Prior to founding Financial Institutions Consulting, Wendel was a vice president at Mercer Management Consulting and an engagement manager with McKinsey & Co., Inc. A banking industry veteran, he has consulted to money center and regional banks, insurers, and diversified financial services companies both in the U.S. and Europe.
