Bank of America led a list of the largest U.S. consumer banks in the number of customers using its online-banking services and in the intensity with which customers use those services, an Internet research firm said Monday.

Bank of America led a list of the largest U.S. consumer banks in the number of customers using its online-banking services and in the intensity with which customers use those services, an Internet research firm said Monday.

Bank of America customers are 20 percent more likely to use e-services than at other banks, and those that do, participate in 21 percent more activities, according to the E-Servicing Index released by ComScore Networks on Monday.

Coming in second in ComScore's E-Servicing Index was Wachovia, followed, in order, by Chase/Bank One, Well Fargo, Citibank, US Bank, Washington Mutual and SunTrust.

The ComScore study, which was based on a survey of more than 1,500 U.S. consumers, also found that more than half of online banking customers used self-service capabilities, such as transferring money, setting up recurring payments or re-ordering checks.

Online banking customers were also more loyal to their banks than other customers and were more likely to buy other banking services, ComScore said.
