U.S. Bank Leverages iPad for In-Store Credit Card Applications
U.S. Bank, the retail banking arm of Minneapolis-based U.S. Bancorp, recently introduced an iPad app for customers to complete credit card applications at retail stores. The bank is piloting the app, called Instant Line Access App for the iPad, with sporting goods retailer Sport Chalet to let customers apply to the Sport Chalet Visa credit card right at the store.
The app can only be accessed through a retailer's iPad that connects to U.S. Bank's privately hosted server. If a customer wishes to apply for a store credit card then an employee enters the Instant Line Access app on the store iPad and allows the customer to complete and submit an application via the device. Customers who are instantly approved and accept the credit offer may then immediately obtain a temporary shopping pass to begin making purchases at the store until a permanent credit card arrives in the mail.
The bank launched a similar application program for the iPhone last year and plans to launch both the iPhone and iPad programs in partnership with other retailers later this year. In addition, a U.S. Bank-branded version of the iPad Instant Line Access app will become available in some U.S. bank branches during the second quarter of 2012.
