Sibos News: Postbank Deploys SAP Payments Engine

Postbank payments transaction subsidiary deploys SAP Payments Engine to gain end-to-end capabilities.

SAP AG announced at Sibos that German retail bank Postbank has gone-live on the SAP Payment Engine application. Based on requirements provided by Postbank (which also was the first customer to implement SAP core banking solutions), SAP developed the SAP Payment Engine for effectively processing mass volumes of payments. Postbank's subsidiary Betriebs-Center f¼r Banken AG (BCB) is the largest payment transaction firm in Germany, servicing four out of Germany's five biggest banks and has a market share of over 20 percent. With the SAP Payment Engine, Postbank gains a scalable payment processing platform, with standardized processes and clear interfaces to create a common, cross-enterprise payment IT infrastructure that supports its strategy of becoming one of the leading payment processing providers in Europe.

"It's important to have a reliable partner, [which] developed a solution we can use for different clients," says Sven J. Tolk, executive office services, BCB. "This software helps us offer quite competitive prices and quality."

According to Johan Kestens, senior vice president, line of business financial services, SAP, the Payments Engine provides bank with an end-to-end payments transaction capabilities, enabling critical capabilities such as customization and scalability. "This is the only end-to-end solution that scales," Kesten declares. "An end-to-end solution is crucial for innovation and tailoring to market needs."
