Customers Welcome RDC's Convenience

First Command Bank finds remote deposit capture especially helpful for military families subject to frequent relocation.

First Command Bank rolled out remote deposit capture to consumers in October 2008, and we've seen this capability welcomed and adopted by customers. Currently there are 2,010 registered clients in our RDC program, Deposits OnCommand, with a total of 3,175 accounts and an average balance of $4,300. In order to qualify for this capability, customers must have an investment, insurance or loan account in addition to their deposit account, and they must be e-statement/e-notice clients.

We've found RDC to be especially beneficial to our military customers, in that it allows for a quick and convenient way to process deposits from virtually anywhere with just a computer and a scanner. And because deployments and relocations are frequent occurrences for military families, the ability to bank remotely and deposit electronically is important for our customers.

We have a number of safeguards in place to prevent fraudulent activity. We work with our partner in remote capture, Fidelity National Information Services (Jacksonville, Fla.), and our own information security team to ensure that deposits are posted in a timely manner without compromising the security of our customers or the bank.

We were initially concerned about how introducing this capability would affect call volume in our call center, but there was very little impact at all in this area. We offer a good FAQ document and have an online video as well to train new users. In addition, the system is on alert for suspicious situations such as duplicate deposits, illegible endorsements or a discrepancy between the amount deposited and the actual check amount.
