CommonWealth Bank of Australia Replaces ATM Network

The bank will replace its 4,100 machines designed to read mag-stripe cards with EMV-enabled machines.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia today announced it is replacing its existing ATM network with EMV chip-enabled machines.

The bank said it will be the first in Australia to rollout ATMs that meet the new EMV standard for chip-enabled cards. The ATMs will also include a range of new features to combat security threats, including card skimming, according to Commonwealth.

The program, being rolled out with the bank’s new partners, Armaguard Group and Wincor Nixdorf, will also feature enhanced deposit functionality at selected branches, allowing customers to deposit cash and checks in real time.

All the new ATMs will have audio support for vision impaired customers. In addition, should an ATM be out of service, a locator tool will indicate the nearest machine.
