IBM Joins Banking Industry Architecture Network

The group is composed of banks and technology companies that serve the financial industry.

IBM (Armonk, N.Y.) announced it is joining the Banking Industry Architecture Network (BIAN) a technology association dedicated to creating a service-oriented architecture standard in the financial industry.

As well as becoming a full member of the BIAN community, IBM's vice president of financial services solutions, Chae An, will take a position on BIAN's board of directors.

Since its inception in 2008, BIAN's mission has been to establish a service-oriented architecture standard in the banking industry, the group said. In 2011, BIAN signed nine new members and launched its "Service Landscape 1.5," a guide on how bank IT departments can use service-oriented architecture to operate more efficiently.

IBM joins the 30-strong global community of experts from the banking and software industries, which includes ING, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Credit Suisse, Microsoft, Scotiabank, SAP, Callaty & Wouters, Infosys and SunGard. Its members are "working together to develop standards that help banks significantly reduce IT costs," according to the organization.
