Chase Manhattan Bank has joined a long line of financial institutions jumping ship from S1/Edify's platform to the Corillian Voyager platform. In fact, the sheer number of recent converts, including heavy-hitters like Citibank, Huntington Bank and Wachovia, influenced Chase's decision to switch its Internet system provider.
"Corillian leads the Internet retail banking space and its track record was a key factor in selecting them as our solution provider," said Bruce Zimmerman, senior vice president at Chase Manhattan.
Hillsboro, Ore.-based Corillian now counts 13 of the top 80 banks as users of its Voyager platform. Many of these new customers, Chase included, were looking for a system that was highly scalable, according to John Grispon, senior vice president of major accounts at Corillian, adding that Corillian's current scalability is sufficient to handle Chase's online customer growth projections. The $425 billion Chase currently handles some 650,000 consumer users online, and expects growth to reach the millions. Voyager is currently rated to be scalable to 3.7 million users-well beyond Chase's projected needs.
Chase also liked the system's openness, which allows the bank to interface Voyager with its call center as well as its core processing systems. The bank also gave high marks to the system's integrated single sign-on functionality.
Corillian has a strong relationship with Microsoft, and credits both the openness and the scalability of the Voyager platform to the Windows 2000 technology that the system is based on, Grispon said.
The Voyager platform will be running on Compaq hardware at Chase. Corillian and Microsoft, with assistance from a Chase technical team, will work together on the deployment. The conversion is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
"It's a pretty complicated conversion," said Matt Cone, chief marketing officer at Corillian, "because there are a number of customers that will be migrating from the current platform to the new platform. It's a pretty involved process of moving over a customer's bill payment activity and pending transitions in a seamless way."
