Eccles, a 2010 Bank Systems & Technology Elite 8 honoree, brings more than 25 years of banking industry experience to Webster. He served as CIO for the past four years at Umpqua Holdings, and also was the CIO for Washington Mutual Bank's (WaMu) retail bank prior to joining Umpqua. A native of South Africa, Eccles worked for the First National Bank of South Africa before joining Hogan System, a banking software company that was acquired by CSC; following that acquisition, Eccles assumed responsibility for leading the company's services organizations for the Americas.

"I'm delighted to have someone of Colin's caliber join our executive team," said Jerry Plush, president and chief operating officer of $20 billion-asset Webster Bank, which serves businesses and consumers in the Northeast, in a press release. "Colin is an accomplished, knowledgeable leader with a proven track record of building best-in-class business solutions and operations. His experience will also be invaluable as we further enhance our e-banking solutions for businesses and consumers."
