Association Update

James Gilmore, chair of the Congressional Advisory Commission on Terrorism, will keynote the second BioDefense Mobilization Conference & Exhibition; FDIC and XBRL USA co-host a half-day conference on extensible business reporting laungauge for financial service leaders; Sandra Jansky of SunTrust Banks elected chair of the Risk Management Association.

Former Virginia governor James Gilmore, chair of the Congressional Advisory Commission on Terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction, will keynote the second BioDefense Mobilization Conference & Exhibition to be held October 22-24 in Philadelphia.

Congress established the Gilmore Commission in 1999 to assess federal, state, and local governments' capability to respond to terrorist attacks.

In addition to a keynote, the conference will have sessions on Public Safety and Responder Protection, Terrorism Law and Policy, Workplace Preparedness and the Built Environment, Science and Technology, Public Health and Private Medicine, and Communications and Training. The sessions will focus on best practices essential tools, key personnel and sound policies.

FDIC and XBRL USA will co-host a half-day conference on extensible business reporting laungauge (XBRL) for financial service leaders on September 23 at George Mason University, Arlington. Va.

The conference will focus on XBRL, an XML-based standard for financial and business reporting over the Internet that can support common lending, credit analysis, and regulatory reporting activities. Attendees will preview a new XBRL taxonomy, and hear details on how bank regulatory agencies are planning to use XBRL to improve processing of Call Report data. They will also receive a customized XBRL Implementation Toolkit.

The keynote speaker for the event will be C. K. Lee, special advisor to the chairman of the FDIC, who will address collaboration needs within the financial services industry in the pursuit of data transparency, enhanced standards development and adoption of new tools such as XBRL.

Sandra Jansky, executive vice president and chief credit officer of SunTrust Banks, Atlanta, has been elected chair of the Risk Management Association (RMA).

Jansky, a 25-year member of RMA, has held numerous national leadership positions with the association, including two separate terms on the Board of Directors. She has also served on RMA's Policy Council and the Regulatory Relations Council. She received a Special Service Award in 1992-93 and a Distinguished Service Award last year.

As chief credit officer at SunTrust, Jansky has company-wide oversight of the full range of credit-related functions, including credit policy, credit administration, credit and capital markets risk, special assets, credit review, and credit portfolio metrics. Jansky began her banking career in1967, joining SunTrust in 1981.
